Would anyone know where I could find a small and relatively inexpensive talking microwave? I want one for my college dorm next year. I checked Speak to Me and Independent Living Aids but their mikes are either too big or too expensive.

That's what I was thinking about. I just thought a talking one would be pretty cool. They had one at the guide dog school i went to.

I have to agree, they are neat; we had one at the rehab center for the blind in Daytona Beach, but they're about $300. That's not Worth spending that much money on in my oppinion, when you can by a regular one at your local department store, and have someone help you label it.

Do the talking ones still come with convection ovens?

There is a place, Blind Mice Mart, that is run by a man named Dale Brown. I think he has a talking microwave that is small and less expensive. His address, I believe, is blindmicemart.com; he claims it's nonprofit. I feel the way most of you seem to feel, I wouldn't waste the money either, but it's your money. LaWanda

I think talking microwaves are cool, but I too just have mine marked with little dots can't remember what they're called but they're stick on dots.

lol, I could not stand my mycrowave talking to me. It's far cheaper to have raised puffy dot things on it.

I was just at a training session, and saw a brief demo of the Hamilton Beach talking microwave. As I understand it, they discontinued it, however you can get it from Independent living aids. I don't think they sold as well as the company had hoped. Unfortunately, it is selling for about $170 from what I understand. I'm betting if you checked around at the bst buys or wallmarts or k-marts, you might still find some of them.
